The Loosen family have been growing and producing Riesling in Mosel for over 200 years.  Erni Loosen who took control of the family vineyards in the 1980s is long held as one of the greatest Riesling producers of the world. 

"This vineyard is directly adjacent to the eastern side of the Prälat and is so steep that, centuries ago, stone steps were built into the hillside so that workers could reach the vines more easily. If the wines from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr seem like a graceful "ballerina," those from the Treppchen resemble muscular free-style climbers. The iron-rich, red slate soil produces wines that are full-flavoured, racy and complex, with an intense mineral aftertaste." - Dr. Loosen
