Description

Since 1739, Jean-Claude Pichot’s family has been rooted in Vouvray, initially as viticulturists and restaurateurs. Domaine Pichot, established in 1996, operates from cellars carved into the village’s historic quarries, once used to build Loire châteaux. Their 60 acres of Chenin Blanc vines, averaging thirty years old, thrive exclusively in Vouvray, located six miles east of Tours along the Loire’s right bank. In contrast to négociant-bottled counterparts, Pichot's wines embody Chenin Blanc's perfumed elegance, faithfully expressing their terroir, climate, and the family's winemaking expertise. At Clos Saint Mathurin, a mere hectare of 35-year-old vines thrives on clay and limestone soils. Handpicked fruit undergoes primary fermentation, 70% in stainless steel and 30% in barrel, followed by secondary fermentation in bottle, maturing on lees for 36 months. This wine is truly exceptional, boasting delicate bubbles and a straw-yellow colour. Its expressive bouquet unfolds with floral notes of white flowers, vineyard peaches, toasted almonds. The palate is elegant and creamy, offering ripe, harmonious flavours of apple and pear. The finish is remarkably aromatic, lingering beautifully.
