A blend of about two-thirds grape juice, to one-third Cognac, and aged for more than five years after the initial blend, has in turn created a gorgeous mahogany coloured Pineau des Charentes, characterised by plum and pear aromas, with some hazelnuts too. Red fruits appear on the palate, accompanied by candied quince, as it finishes generously. While suited as an aperitif, perhaps paired with pâté, so, too, could it function as a dessert wine.
