Pinot Noir, Chardonnay

Red Varietal - Light

Description

Located inland between two mountain ranges, the Mangatahi vineyard is an organically farmed vineyard planted in 2006 which benefits from the lower rainfall, warmer days and cooler nights the Hawkes Bay area provides.

The Pinot Noir (85%) and Chardonnay (15%) for Kenzie Wines' Tearz were handpicked from the Mangatahi vineyard situated on ancient river terraces, made up of greywacke sandstone beneath volcanic ash topsoils, alluvial gravels and silt loams.

Following handpicking, the grapes were whole-bunch pressed directly to tank with full solids. After a wild ferment, the wine was racked to old oak puncheon barrels for natural malolactic fermentation. After 4 months of maturing at cool temperatures, the Tearz was racked to tank for bottling. No fining or filtration and minimal sulphur.  Tearz is not fined or filtered and is made using mininal sulphurs.
