Description

The Ellis family were told that Syrah couldn't be grown in the cold climate of Southern Tasmania. But if there's ever a wine to prove the disbelievers wrong, it's this.

Polar opposite to the big hitting Shiraz wines that Australia is famous for producing, Peter Dredge has developed a skill for treating this grape varietal with care in the winemaking process, in order to captivate its more elegant components. The Syrah comes from the estate's oldest vines (planted in 1974), alongside a portion of fruit from the 2015 planted block.

“A magenta-hued Syrah that shows pepper-dusted red and dark fruits along with hints of exotic spice, snapped twigs and amaro herbs, wildflowers, dried citrus rind, blueberry pastries, sandalwood and dried cranberry. Airy, detailed and energetic with a captivating, bunchy complexity and filigreed tannins providing gentle, powdery support. There's a tonic-like quality to the sapid, mineral line... and by tonic I mean it's good for you. If you get my drift.” - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
