Mulline's inaugural release from the Portarlington vineyard showcases the exceptional potential of this coastal site. Planted in 1994 on Nurringa Park's distinctive blend of sandy loam, dark clay and limestone soils, just one kilometre from the water, the fruit was handpicked and pressed directly to oak with full solids. Cold fermentation in a dedicated room preceded barrel maturation, 20% in new French oak, the balance in seasoned barriques and puncheons, with 20% undergoing malolactic fermentation over eight months. The result is a wine of remarkable elegance. Stone fruit aromas meld with orange blossom and subtle sea spray, leading to a chalky, concentrated and beautifully balanced palate. Awarded 97 points by Halliday Wine Companion, this is the finest Portarlington Chardonnay in recent memory. A wine to enjoy now through the next five years and beyond.
