Montepulciano is a sturdy varietal that does well in tough growing conditions, and consistently produces excellent wines. The Ravensworth Hilltops is no exception: perfectly balanced, with high acid and low tannin. There are rich black and blue fruits throughout, but it's also a very savoury wine, the fruit characteristics surrounded by notes of herb and dark chocolate. Drinks well now, but will do well with cellaring too.
