Established in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam, this family-run distillery began with just one copper still and a commitment to craftsmanship. Over the decades, Zuidam has grown into a state-of-the-art facility—now helmed by sons Patrick and Gilbert—featuring four copper stills, 1,000+ oak barrels, modern tank storage, and four production lines.
Despite its evolution, the distillery proudly preserves a piece of Dutch tradition: grain for their whisky is still milled using windmills. This gentle, slow grind minimises heat and protects the malt’s natural aroma—an ode to heritage and flavour.
Zuidam’s whisky matures in small barrels, including American white oak and those previously seasoned with Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry. The use of new or lightly-used casks, stored in a warm warehouse, accelerates aging while intensifying character.
